"HOLD ON (CHANGE IS COMIN')", the 1997 Gospel hit by Sounds of Blackness, is one of the underlying theme songs for this off-season in Major League Baseball as part of the MLB Tonight: A Conversation series.  The use of "HOLD ON (CHANGE IS COMIN')", which interpolates the 1982 Top 10 R&B hit "Doo Wa Ditty (Blow That Thing)" by Zapp, highlights both the diversity of the Lastrada catalog and the ability of genre-specific songs to serve as crossover bridges to current popular culture.

Amazon Prime tapped the 1993 #1 rap hit "TIME 4 SUM AKSION" for its special for "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" Apollo Theater Event, which aired in August 2020.  The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has received acclaim for its look into the comedic scene of the 1950's through the lens of a female lead fighting against societal gender norms.  "TIME 4 SUM AKSION", performed by Redman from his 'Platinum'-selling album Whut? Thee Album, was previously licensed in the motion picture You Got Served and has remained one of the lasting songs from the Hip Hop/Rap movement of the early 1990's.



PAPA JOHN'S PIZZA debuts its latest new product, the Cheeseburger Papadia, using "MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE" as its signature promotional song.  "MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE", the 1980 #2 R&B hit for Zapp, has gained acclaim for its broad promotional adverstising power in recent commercials for Calvin Klein and Hyundai Automative.  With complementary appeal in motion pictures (PixelsStraight Outta Compton) and television shows (SnowfallSouth ParkNew Girl), "MORE BOUNCE TO THE OUNCE" has predictably become a signature song of the 80's Funk/R&B era.

"Planez", the hit single by Jeremih featuring J. Cole, is one of the 5 songs nominated for the Grammy R&B Song of the Year for 2015.  Lastrada and its writer's, Regi Hargis', interest in "Planez" is derived from a sample of the 1999 song "Put It In Your Mouth" by Akinyele, which was based on a sample of the song "Fun" by the 70's group Brick.  "Planez" was a Top 20 R&B hit in 2015, reaching 'Platinum' sales status.  The song is due for release on Jeremih's forthcoming album Late Nights: The Album, which will be released in December 2015.

"Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin' Gets Picked Up for RIDE ALONG 2 Trailer

Ride Along 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the hit comedy starring Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, is being promoted with the help of "Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'" by M.C. Breed.  "Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'" was one of the earliest crossover Rap hits, peaking at #12 on the Rap charts in 1991 as well as charting on the R&B and Pop charts.  "Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'" continues to have legs nearly 25 years after its success, including a use in the motion picture Harsh Times and a recent use in the video game MLB 2014.  The Ride Along 2 trailer using "Ain't No Future In Yo' Frontin'" is currently airing with the movie's release scheduled for early 2016.

"More Bounce To The Ounce", the 1980 #2 R&B hit by Zapp and one of the most prominent hits from the Funk Era, appears in the latest Adam Sandler motion picture Pixels.  "More Bounce To The Ounce", which was also recently tapped for the motion picture Straight Outta Compton, has been used in a slew of motion picture and television uses, including Boyz 'N The Hood, Everybody Hates Chris, Losing Isaiah and Bernie Mac, as well as in video games and over 50 compilation albums.  "More Bounce To The Ounce" has also been sampled in over 100 new works, including by artists such as Snoop Dogg, Puffy, Ice Cube, M.C. Lastrada and Stuart Weitzman have agreed on the use of "Make That Move" for a 6-month television commercial that aired in connection with the MTV Music Video Awards show in August 2015.  "Make That Move" was a Top 10 R&B hit for Shalamar in 1981, and was used as the basic theme for a new song recorded by Maluca x Solidisco.  This represents the first time "Make That Move" has been used for a commercial product.  The new version of "Make That Move" will also be available for limited digital downloading with an anticipated release in the Fall of 2015.



This year's hottest motion picture, Straight Outta Compton, features 7 songs from the Lastrada catalog, including N.W.A.'s seminal hit "Gangsta Gangsta", as well as hits by 2Pac ("California Love"), Ice Cube ("The Nigga Ya Love To Hate"), and Zapp ("More Bounce To The Ounce" and "Be Alright").  Straight Outta Compton has been atop the motion picture box office receipts since its release in August 2015.  With its catalog rich in early Rap music and 80's works that were the inspiration for such works, Lastrada's catalog is a mainstay of the motion picture soundtrack.

The long-awaited Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2014 motion picture smash hit, was released worldwide on May 15, 2015.  The soundtrack for the Pitch Perfect 2 returning cast will include the 2014 hit "TIMBER", which was originally performed by Pitbull & Kesha and was a #1 song in the United States for 4 weeks as well as being at the top of nearly every major international song chart.  This is the 2nd significant motion picture use for "TIMBER", which was previously licensed for motion picture trailer uses for the film The Other Woman.  The use of "Timber" in Pitch Perfect 2 will also include an accompanying motion picture soundtrack, as well as sing-a-long versions.

"MEETING IN THE LADIES ROOM", the 1984 #4 R&B hit by Klymaxx, is part of the opening season for the new reality series Bama State Style featuring the Alabama State University marching band.  "MEETING IN THE LADIES ROOM" has quickly become the seminal work by Klymaxx with recent uses in Mike & Molly, Being Bobby Brown and RuPaul's Drag Race.  Bama State Style first aired in April 2015 on Lifetime Television and will run through the Summer of 2015.
